San Francisco- Audience Favorite Tranny Fest, the transgender/transgenre film festival returns with a night of independent films and videos on the sweet complexity and dynamic diversity of lives lived on the gender continuum.

"Transgender and genderqueer people are probably the most cutting edge culture shapers in the world," says Tranny Fest Director Shawna Virago. "And since 1997, Tranny Fest has provided a space for those visions and voices to be heard."

This year's Tranny Fest theme, Short Shorts, is a night of tranny film and video shorts Saturday November 12th at Femina Potens Gallery (465 South Van Ness). All works are 7 minutes or less - perfect for those of us in the short attention span generation. And all this fun is just $5 at the door!

The event's co-presenter, Fresh Meat Productions, is recognized as a leader in the creation and presentation of Bay Area transgender and queer arts. Critics have praised Fresh Meat's events as "fierce and fine-tuned…history in the making" (Bay Area Reporter).

This year's Tranny Fest highlights include: director Oakie Treadwell's Maggots and Men. In the spirit of a Russian propaganda film, this historical drama recounts the events of the Kronstadt uprising of 1921, with gender as a provocative subtext. Plus it features hot sailors exploring naval life as the scene of homoerotic adventure.

"The Two Sides of Monsier Valentine" a new music video shot by Ryan Junell in San Francisco features the infamous performer Johnny Kat at the illustrious drag night known as Trannyshack. This video is for the wonderful band Spoon on behalf of their lovely new album "Gimme Fiction" out now on Merge Records.
